I rise as a proud westie to congratulate my alma mater, Western Sydney University for ranking first in the world for its social, economic and environmental impact in the 2023 Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the main global ranking system for universities, assessing them on their commitment to the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In a first for any Australian university, WSU has now ranked first for two consecutive years. The university ranked first for gender equality, responsible consumption and production, and global partnership beating out 1,700 institutions across 115 countries. WSU is an example for tertiary education institutions across the world, having met its commitment to being carbon neutral by 2023, and aiming to become climate positive in 2029. I congratulate WSU on its achievement and its example of Western Sydney leading the nation.
