Huge congratulations to former Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller on being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to local government and the community of Liverpool as part of the recent King's Birthday Honours. Wendy served on Liverpool council from 1995 until her retirement in 2021, holding the mayoral office twice during that time. During her tenure, Wendy chaired multiple committees and was an ambassador to the award‑winning 2168 Children's Parliament. She was also recognised for her work in community services, managing the South West Child, Adolescent and Family Services for many years. Wendy's time as mayor focused on several key initiatives, including advocacy on Liverpool's status as Sydney's third CBD and leading the development of the City Deal for the Western Sydney airport and aerotropolis. Always a strong and unwavering advocate for the Liverpool community, Wendy was also an irreplaceable mentor to me during my first term on council. I wish Wendy and her family the best.
