It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Dr Bryan Cowling, the founding principal of Thomas Hassall Anglican College and a deeply respected member of the community. Appointed in 1999 during the college's planning stages, Dr Cowling guided Thomas Hassall through its opening in 2000 and led the school throughout its formative years until 2007. His vision, leadership and unwavering commitment helped shape not only the physical foundations of the college but also the strong and caring community spirit that continues to this day. His lasting contribution is reflected in the many students, staff and families whose lives were touched by his service, and in the school building that proudly bears his name. Dr Cowling was also a dedicated amateur local historian, authoring a history of St Luke's Anglican Church, Liverpool, to commemorate its 200th anniversary. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness and generosity of spirit. I extend my sincere condolences to Mrs Megan Cowling, the Cowling family, and all who knew and admired him. May he rest in peace.
