Syd West Multicultural Services Lunch - Refugee Settlement

06 August 2025

On 17 June, I had the privilege of attending the Conversations on Refugee Rights, Responsibilities & Belonging lunch at West HQ, held as part of Refugee Week. A big thank you to SydWest Multicultural Services, Western Sydney MRC, and Blacktown City Council for bringing together such a thought provoking and celebratory event. The afternoon featured stories of resilience, vibrant cultural performances, and rich insights into the policies shaping refugee experiences today. Hearing from key voices both global and local, reinforced the importance of improving our humanitarian intake systems and creating more supportive, dignified settlement experiences. It was also a chance to celebrate the often-overlooked contributions that refugees make across our economy, culture, and community life in Australia. This event served as a strong reminder: refugees don't just seek safety, they bring strength, talent, and a deep desire to belong. With the right support, they help shape a more inclusive, dynamic, and compassionate Australia.
