On 11 July I joined the Australian Bosnian‑Herzegovinian Cultural Association and the Bosnian community in commemorating Srebrenica Remembrance Day. I often join cultural groups in my community to celebrate the best of culture, customs, language and religion. However, events like this are just as important, not just for the community who suffered but all of us. It is incumbent on each of us to learn from history to ensure it does not repeat. The massacre of over 8,000 Bosniak Muslims in Srebrenica in July 1995 was a horrendous tragedy. Indeed, Europe had hoped it had left such events behind it following World War II. With the war in Ukraine, this year's event was particularly poignant, and I acknowledge the Bosnian community's solidarity with the people of Ukraine. I thank the Australian Bosnian‑Herzegovinian Cultural Association, Amir Sahinovic, the Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all the speakers and performers at this year's important commemoration.
