Over the past few months the South West Sydney Academy of Sport [SWSAS] has been celebrating its athletes achievements with a series of civic receptions in each of the partner councils. SWSAS was formed in 1997 and provides local training and development opportunities for talented young athletes, coaches and sport administrators from the south-west. The academy has been recognised as being a leader in quality sports program delivery, providing an important pathway for the many talented athletes in my region. For 26 years SWSAS has been enthusiastically supported by local sporting organisations, MPs and the member councils of Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly alike. SWSAS has young athletes from across 12 sports. Netball in particular is a success story for the institute, having 21 athletes from SWSAS now playing in the NSW Premier League. This year the academy saw its 5,000th athlete come through with volleyballer Sibelle Hassan. I congratulate CEO Gerry Knights, the staff, board and athletes on their role in promoting and developing our stars of tomorrow.
