27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week. It is a time for all Australians to learn about and reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements and carve a path together toward our shared goal of reconciliation in this nation. I had the opportunity to attend the Commemoration of Sorry Day by Liverpool Regional Museum with Aunty Pearl Wymarra and members of the Gandangara and Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Councils. Apologising for the past is an important step in the path of reconciliation and healing. Sovereignty was never ceded, and this land always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. Reconciliation Week is particularly important this year, as we progress further toward reconciliation with the Federal Government beginning to implement the Uluru Statement of the Heart in full: voice, treaty, and truth-telling. I look forward to joining with my community in supporting this invitation to walk with our First Nations Australians.
