Our nation has been shaken by the tragic events earlier this month at Greta in the Hunter Valley. But, once again, in dark times we have seen the best of our community—people and organisations from across the country coming together to support those most impacted by these tragic events. On Sunday 18 June members of the Sikh community came together at the Sikh Mission Centre at Austral in my electorate to hold a prayer congregation for those who lost their lives in this horrific incident. The event was held on behalf of the National Sikh Council of Australia and follows a long tradition of Australian Sikhs' selfless contribution to the Australian community when it is most in need. Indeed, Seva—or service and dedication to others—is a core tenet of the faith. I commend the National Sikh Council of Australia and all those involved in this important commemoration, in particular Bawa Singh Jagdev, who is the secretary of the Austral Mission Centre.
