It was a privilege to attend RSL LifeCare's annual fundraising gala, the 2025 Poppy Ball, held aboard HMASCanberra (III) at Garden Island. The night was more than a celebration; it was a tribute to over 110 years of service to veterans and their families. What began in 1911 with the opening of the veterans home on Bare Island has grown into one of the largest care providers in Australia, now supporting over 13,700 people across more than 80 locations in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland. Today, RSL LifeCare's services extend far beyond aged care. Programs like Homes for Heroes and Veteran Services offer housing, mental health support and financial assistance, and help veterans transition back to civilian life. Just last year, they provided over 900 nights of accommodation for veterans facing homelessness and more than $120,000 in direct support. I thank RSL LifeCare and everyone involved in the organisation of this year's Poppy Ball.
