On the 31st of July, I had the pleasure of joining The Nepalese Guardian Society in celebrating the Nepalese Rice Pudding Festival, known as "Kheer Khane Din," in my Electorate in Austral. The Nepalese Guardian Society is a local group founded on community, culture, and care. They are dedicated to supporting one another across generations and preserving Nepalese traditions in Southwest Sydney. This special festival brings people together to share kheer, a creamy rice pudding that is more than a delicious treat. It holds deep cultural significance, as time-honoured tradition that symbolises hope for a year filled with positivity, prosperity, and peace. "Kheer Khane Din" marks the end of the rice planting season and celebrates the abundance of milk and the beauty of Nepal's agricultural heritage. It was a joy to witness this beautiful tradition being kept alive and shared so warmly here in my local community. It was an absolute pleasure being a part of something so warm and welcoming, where food, culture and tradition brought people together.
