Ratha Yatra

06 August 2025

It was an honour to join the Association of Odias in Australia for its inaugural Ratha Yatra on 29 June. It was a deeply meaningful celebration that was more than tradition; it was a living expression of faith, culture and community spirit. As the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarsana moved through the crowd, they carried centuries of spiritual connection and cultural pride. The deities were brought from Canberra, where the festival has long been celebrated at places like the Hindu Temple in Florey, linking communities through shared heritage and joyful procession. It was moving to see families, elders and young people come together in such strong numbers, celebrating with devotion, dance and ceremony. Every detail, from the rituals to the graceful performances, spoke to the strength and unity of the community. My heartfelt thanks to the organisers for the warm welcome. May this first Ratha Yatra in our city grow into a cherished tradition for many generations to come.
