The Out of the Shadows Walk, part of Lifeline Australia's suicide prevention efforts, is held annually every September, as part of World Suicide Prevention Day, to honour those lost to suicide and to raise funds for vital crisis support services. The initiative encourages open conversations, reduces stigma and provides hope to those in need while people also get a bit of light exercise. I took part in our local Out of the Shadows Walk, held at Greenway Park last Saturday. Hosted by the dedicated "friends who understand" team, participants walked in memory of loved ones and to shine a light on this important issue. Following the walk, participants were treated to a delicious barbecue lunch. The day raised over $9,000, which will directly fund Lifeline's crisis hotline. The vital contribution ensures that Lifeline can continue to provide immediate, lifesaving support to those struggling with mental health issues, making a meaningful impact in the fight against suicide. I congratulate Dimitrios Marvo and the entire "friends who understand" team.
