Nepalese New Year

21 June 2024

On 8 June I attended the Nepalese New Year celebrations at Willowdale Park, Denham Court, along with Nepalese Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Kailash Raj Pokharei, Camden mayor Ashleigh Cagney and Liverpool city councillor Dr Betty Green. Having previously been rained out, it was great to see some beautiful Leppington weather on show for this wonderful celebration of Nepalese culture. Nepalese New Year, also known as Naya Barsha, is a celebration marking the beginning of the year according to the lunar calendar used in Nepal. It is a time for cultural festivities, family gatherings and traditional rituals. Seeing the Nepalese community grow and thrive in my region is truly inspiring. Their contributions and cultural richness bring great value to the Leppington electorate. Their dedication to preserving their heritage while actively participating in our growing community showcases unity and diversity— hallmarks that make our region so special. A happy 2081 to all who celebrate.
