On 25 October, I attended the Mosque Open Day hosted by the Australian Islamic Cultural Centre at Masjid Bilal in Hinchinbrook. The event provided a valuable opportunity for people from all backgrounds to visit the mosque, meet members of the local Muslim community, and gain a better understanding of Islamic traditions and culture. Open days like this play an important role in promoting understanding and respect. They allow people to see firsthand the positive role mosques play in local communities — not only as places of worship, but as centres for learning, charity, and connection. It was encouraging to see so many locals come through the doors, engage in conversations, and take genuine interest in the beliefs and practices of their neighbours. These simple acts of openness and curiosity go a long way in building stronger, more inclusive communities. My thanks to the Australian Islamic Cultural Centre and the Masjid Bilal team for your warm hospitality and for making the day so welcoming and informative. Your efforts help bring our communities closer together.
