On Saturday 3 June 2023 the long-serving management committee members and founders of both the Mandaean Australian Community Cultural Club and the Manda House in Australia were recognised and rewarded for their hard work and support for the Mandaean community in Australia and all over the world. The event was hosted by Dr Amad Mtashar, AM, and I had the pleasure of attending the ceremony and thanking those organisations and their members for their tireless work.
The Mandaean community has faced persecution in their homelands of Iran and Iraq for decades, with many making Liverpool and the south-west their new home. It is estimated that the Liverpool local government area is home to the largest Mandaean diaspora in the world and, like many communities before and after, its members have settled in their new homeland and sacrificed their time in service of their emerging community. I congratulate the following awardees: Asia, Jamal, Qabil, Ajeel, Basheer, Karim, Dahafir, Tarik, Sinan, Nasri, Abdual Muanem, Raed, Amajed and Ghazwan.
