A significant milestone was marked on 7 April with the official opening of Macarthur Memorial Park in Varroville—Sydney's first new Crown cemetery in 80 years. The event was attended by Premier Chris Minns, Minister Stephen Kamper, Archbishop Anthony Fisher, OP, Bishop Brian Mascord and leaders from 25 faith groups, highlighting a united effort to create a space that honours all cultures and religions. Spread across 113 hectares, Macarthur Memorial Park features 136,000 burial plots, three chapels, native gardens, a cafe, and walking and cycling paths. At the heart of the park is the Waragal Function Centre, an architecturally thoughtful space overlooking a beautiful, peaceful lake. Designed to blend in with the natural surroundings, it provides a serene setting for memorial services, community events and quiet reflection. The opening ceremony was a wonderful demonstration of solidarity in building an inclusive space. I look forward to Macarthur Memorial Park being a space that honours life and continues to support our growing community.
