On Saturday 12 August Leppington Public School celebrated its centenary. Originally founded as the Raby School in 1923 on the grounds of Alexander Riley's property Raby Farm, the school changed its name to Leppington Public School in 1955. Over the years, the school has witnessed the region change from a rural outpost on Sydney's fringes to its more recent assimilation into Sydney's urban sprawl. As such, Leppington Public School has grown from one class of about 40 pupils, aged six to 15, in 1923 to 350 students today. Thanks to government investment and projected population growth, the school will continue to grow for many years to come. I thank all the students, teachers and parents, both past and present, who worked so hard to make this event a success. In particular, I thank principal Hayley Corvini and her deputy, Lauren Fryer.
