On 18 July i visited Greenway Park Community Centre for Italian Culture Week. This wonderful event, brought to life by Marco Polo - The Italian School of Sydney, saw over 30 students alongside their parents and volunteers come together to make homemade pasta. Special mention to Maria Grazia Storniolo and her dedicated team for doing an incredible job organising the event. Marco Testa, one of the teachers, highlighted how important events like these are for young Italian-Australians. He spoke about the significance of not just learning the language, but also building a greater understanding of Italian culture. One of the great moments of the day was when Fortunato 'Lucky' Legato, a director of the Catholic Club of Liverpool, shared his personal story recalling his arrival in Australia in 1963 which fell on the same day. He expressed his joy in seeing the children embrace Italian traditions, a reminder of how important keeping cultural roots alive and passing them on to the next generation is. As I said on the day, "It is very important to understand where you come from, why you are here, and part of that is learning the language, culture, and food."
