On the 10th of November 2024 I attended the Sydney Iraqi Festival at the Whitlam Leisure Centre in Liverpool. It was an honour to partake in the rich Iraqi culture whilst enjoying the lively music, authentic food, and beautiful art. There was a diverse array of traditional Iraqi delicacies including fresh knafeh and coffee on sand. A slide show displaying ancient Iraqi cities reflected deep connections to the motherland and the beauty of Iraqi history. The festival also featured a market, consisting of stalls selling jewellery and other small goods. Events like this show that difference in culture is not a point of division, but rather an opportunity for community and celebration. Witnessing family and friends across our diverse community come together to celebrate culture is a wonderful reminder of the wealth of history and tradition our region enjoys.
