It was an immense privilege to join the Chaldean community over the weekend to congratulate His Beatitude Mar Paul III Nona following his election as Patriarch of the Chaldean Church. His election is a historic moment for Chaldeans locally and around the world. As patriarch, His Beatitude has now become the spiritual leader of the worldwide Chaldean Church, guiding millions of faithful and carrying forward a tradition that stretches back centuries. For decades, His Beatitude has dedicated his life to faith, leadership and service from Iraq to Australia. He arrived here in 2015 and has led the local diocese of the Chaldean Church for Australia and New Zealand with strength. He has grown the faith and supported the community and families. In south-western Sydney, his leadership has also helped shape the future of the church, including by purchasing land at Catherine Field in my electorate. While I am immensely proud of his election, I will miss his chats. I wish him all the best.
