I recognise and thank Gerry Knights for a lifetime of service to sport, health and the community in south-west Sydney. As CEO of the South West Sydney Academy of Sport for more than 20 years, Gerry transformed the academy into a powerhouse for athlete development. Under his guidance, thousands of young people from across the region gained access to elite coaching and education, with many progressing to State and national levels. Gerry's leadership has shaped the landscape of community sport for over five decades. Having also worked in local government, he led health and recreation initiatives as a manager of Healthy Lifestyles at Campbelltown City Council. In 2023 he was honoured with a lifetime achievement award recognising more than 25 years devoted to progress in the sport industry. An accomplished hockey player himself, Gerry has used his personal insight to elevate others, leaving a lasting impact on the skills, confidence and futures of our young athletes. I wish him all the best as he looks after his grandson, Tristyn.
