On Saturday 24 June I attended Eschol Park Football Club's pink and blue gala day. A festival of football, fun and fundraising, the gala sees rides, food stalls and other activities, with games being played throughout the day across all ages at Eschol Park Sports Complex. The event attracts hundreds from the local area to raise money for an important cause: fighting cancer. The event first started 12 years ago, in 2011, when two mothers of the club's players succumbed to breast cancer. The club wanted to show its support by holding a charity day. It has been a success every year, raising thousands of dollars in the process. This year's event raised $27,600 and is a testament to the many hours of work put in by the organising committee, headed by Peter Anjos, club president Ralf Bzdega and all the club. Big congratulations to everyone involved: the organisers, volunteers, players, stallholders and sponsors.
