On 18 May it was a privilege to attend a Dehwa Daimana ceremony, a deeply spiritual and culturally rich celebration marking the birth of the revered Mandaean prophet Yahya Yohanna, better known to many as John the Baptist. Hosted by the Sabian Mandaean Association, the event holds profound meaning for the Australian Mandaean community and serves as a moment of reflection, renewal and unity. What made the occasion truly special was its openness. The community welcomed people of all faiths and backgrounds to join in the celebration and experience the richness of Mandaean culture firsthand. Events like these are more than religious observances; they are opportunities to foster greater understanding and share in the values of peace, harmony and mutual respect. From the traditional rituals to the warm hospitality, it was a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from cultural diversity and inclusion. I extend my warmest wishes to all members of the Mandaean community for a joyful and peaceful Dehwa Daimana.
