I recognise local servicemen, Corporal John Taylor, who represented me at this year's ANZAC Day Memorial Service wreath laying at Bigge Park. Corporal Taylor has given outstanding service to our nation through a distinguished military career. After only three years in the Army, he was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, on Operation Slipper with Joint Task Force 633 Alpha, where he served for six and a half months as the Brigadier's Driver and Postal Manager. The role required him to operate outside secured zones daily, travelling between coalition bases in a fast-paced and high-risk environment. Throughout his service, he was awarded the Active Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Counter Terrorism Medal, Defence Medal, and NATO Medal in recognition of his contributions. Following his deployment, he was selected to join Special Operations Command at Holsworthy, where he served for seven years. Now a Reservist and Section Commander at Holsworthy, Corporal Taylor continues to serve the community with distinction.
