AAFA Multicultural Communities World Cup

10 February 2026

On the 7 December, I had the privilege of attending the African Australian Football Association's (AAFA) Multicultural Communities World Cup Football tournament and community festival at Rydalmere Park. What started as a grassroots initiative by young people from Western Sydney in 2020, has now become a powerful force for inclusion, wellbeing, and community pride. AAFA excels at connecting young people through football and beyond, using the sport to foster mentorship, leadership, health, wellbeing, and lasting community bonds. Through football, AAFA creates a space where young people, especially from African and CALD backgrounds, can feel seen, supported and celebrated. With over 29 nations represented, last year's tournament was an incredible celebration of everything that makes our multicultural communities strong: resilience, pride, talent, and togetherness, and it couldn't happen without the dedication of so many. I sincerely thank the volunteers, partner organisations, local leaders, and of course, the players for your dedication to uplifting and supporting our youth through sport.
