It was a pleasure to once again attend the Gala Evening of the 38th Serbian Folkloric Festival at Bonnyrigg Sports Club. I attend this wonderful festival every year, and it never disappoints. Across three days, the Serbian community comes together through traditional dance, music and food to proudly celebrate a rich culture and heritage. The Gala Evening featured wonderful local folkloric performances, alongside special guests Avala Folklore from San Marcos, California, USA, and the Twelve Months Dance Troupe from Shenzhen, China. There is something particularly special about seeing generations come together, with young people proudly wearing traditional dress and keeping alive the music, dances and customs passed down through their families. For 38 years, this festival has brought people together and strengthened the bonds of community. It is a wonderful reminder that while people may build a home far from the land of their ancestors, culture and tradition keep that connection strong. Congratulations to the organisers, performers, volunteers and families who continue to make this festival such a treasured celebration each year.
