Mr NATHAN HAGARTY (Leppington) (14:36): I will try to make this a record by my standards and be brief. When you work your backside off to get into this place, there is no better feeling than seeing that something you are personally involved in and have advocated for is likely to pass. This is certainly one of those times. The Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment (Firefighters) Bill 2025 is very important. A lot of advocacy has gone into it. Leighton is in the gallery. He has called me on many occasions.
Ms Sophie Cotsis: Very subtle.
Mr NATHAN HAGARTY: Very subtle, as we have said. Hewon Parry has done a lot of work locally for the Fire Brigade Employees Union. He came in to chat to me about the bill and said how unremarkable it is for firefighters to know a colleague or workmate who has died of cancer. Hopefully the bill goes some way to making that much more remarkable. I will finish with an email I received from a constituent, Group Captain Andrew Macdonald from the Macarthur branch of the NSW Rural Fire Service [RFS]. The email reads:
As a Catherine Field resident, NSW RFS volunteer for over 37 years and the local RFSA representative I say thanks on behalf of all firefighters, paid and unpaid.
I commend the bill to the House.
