Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, has welcomed further road safety upgrades with a school zone to accompany the new Amity College in Leppington.

Works get underway in January to be ready for students’ first day of the 2024 school year and will involve the installation of static and flashing school zone signage, and 40 km/hr pavement and road markings.

The school zone will cover roads around the school including Pluto Avenue, Swift Avenue, Cypress Pine Road, Brush Cherry Street, White Aspen Street, River Mint Avenue and Byron Road in Leppington.

Works will stretch from Tuesday 9 January to Tuesday 30 January 2024, weather permitting, across four-day shifts and three-night shifts.

The 40km/h school zones will come into effect at the start of Term 1, Wednesday 31 January 2024, and will operate between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm on normal school days.

There will be temporary traffic changes to ensure workplace safety. Lane and shoulder closures, as well as a 40km/h speed limit will be in place for the duration of works. Traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists and pedestrians.

Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty said:

“I am looking forward to the opening of Amity College in 2024 and I’d like to thank Transport for NSW for making sure all the necessary safety precautions are locked in place ahead of the school year kicking off in January.

“School zones help protect students on their way to and from school, and I ask all motorists to take note of the changes in January.

“We want every student to get to and from school safely.”
